20 ingredients- 1 meal

So I decided to challenge myself. I would chose 20 ingredients carefully, because I could only use these 20 ingredients and I had to use all 20 ingredients and come up with a meal. So I present to you...

The 20 Ingredient Challenge

20 ingredients:
Red Pepper
Napa Cabbage
Purple Sweet Potato
1 whole chicken leg
Turkey Bacon
Pineapple Chunks
Soy Sauce
Balsamic Vinegar
Dried Minced Onions
Cayenne Pepper
Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
Black Pepper
Asian 5 spice Powder
Olive Oil

I'm going to give you the steps for the meal, but only the in depth for the chicken because everything else is self explanatory.

Step 1: Prep-work
Chop Everything

Oh and this is a Purple Sweet Potato
Step 2: For the cabbage, I just cooked the chopped bacon in a dutch oven until it was crispy, added a little salt and black pepper and tossed the cabbage in. DO NOT ADD WATER. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes (Napa Cabbage is thinner than regular head cabbage so it cooks quicker.) Push it off to the side.

Step 3: Prep for the chicken
Clean your chicken and then prepare a dry rub of a blend in whatever proportions you choose of the following spice:
Asian 5 Spice
Dried Minced Onions
Put the chicken in the bag and shake to coat

Place Chicken into skillet that has been preheated with olive oil in it and let it sear until browned. (Use any all metal skillet that can be used in the oven) Remove Chicken and set to the side.

Throw the chopped veggies into the skillet and saute for about 1 minute. Add some thyme, crushed red pepper flakes, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and sugar, then add your pineapples

Put the chicken back into the pan and toss with the veggies

Place skillet into the oven and let chicken cook for about 30 minutes or until completely cooked through.

Step 3: Sweet Potatoes
While the chicken is in the oven cook your sweet potatoes however you choose. Since this was my first time tasting Purple Sweet potatoes I didn't add anything because I wanted to understand the flavor palate of the vegetable itself. So I just steamed it.

Step 4: Serve Chicken atop a bed of cabbage with a side of sweet potatoes.

Oh I did cheat and add a 21st ingredient to my meal.
